Communicating Power

People are weird about power, often quite uncomfortable with it. Many people I know will say, “I just don’t think I am that powerful.” While humility is a fine quality, you are probably wrong. One of those qualities that leaders don’t self-assess very accurately, it is likely that you have more power than you think you do, but you also may not be taking full advantage of it to make things happen.

MHN 3 awardsMontana Health Network receives funding from three federal grants

Montana Health Network (MHN) has received second round funding of its Navigator grant to place Health Insurance Navigators in rural Montana healthcare facilities. MHN has received $174,666 to train and continue to work of healthcare enrollment for uninsured Montanan’s. MHN will train 32 navigators in 29 facilities covering 32 counties. 23 Navigators are returning from last year. Additional this year include Choteau, Jefferson, Deer Lodge and Powell counties.

With their focus on places and people, rural medical institutions could lead the way in improving America's healthcare system.

A lot of people write about the future of rural health care. Typically there is no shortage of anxiety on the topic. But there is more to the story. We need to understand that rural can be health care’s future.

I know better than most the list of challenges for rural communities. I don’t deny them, but it pays also to look at what we do well and how rural health care can help lead American health care.

Rural health care is part of the change sweeping across the country. The mandate has rightly become to drive quality of care up and costs down while improving the health of the whole community. Rural is and will be part of that “Triple Aim” movement.

Funding Announcements

Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grant Program
ORHP is pleased to announce a unique three-year funding opportunity for a community-driven program targeted to improve outreach and services delivery in local and regional rural communities. The Rural Health Care Services Outreach grant program is a 3-year grant program through which eligible applicants can request up to $200,000/year for projects that expand health services in order to meet their rural community’s need. ( Deadline: November 14, 2014)

There will be a technical assistance webinar on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 1:00-2:30pm EDT to assist applicants in preparing their applications

FCC Rural Broadband Experiments
On July 11, 2014, the Commission adopted a $100 million budget for the rural broadband experiments and established an objective methodology for selecting projects among formal applications, which will be due 90 days after release of the order (due date: October 14, 2014)
