Way back around 1980, employee healthcare costs were consuming around 7 percent of corporate profits and trending upwards. “Corporate America” responded to this issue in a way that was utterly logical—they outsourced the issue to the “experts.” Large employers began contracting with places like Johns Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic to develop strategies to reverse this trend—and the “workplace wellness” movement was born.

MultiPlan to Award $30,000 in Grants to Rural Hospitals
MultiPlan, Inc., the nation’s oldest and largest independent PPO network, is accepting applications for its 2013 Rural Health Outreach Grant. The program, now in its 18th year, awards hospitals serving rural areas financial grants to help them introduce or expand services, education, screenings and other endeavors aimed at improving the health of people in their communities. (Due July 26, 2013)
