NCHN Orientation Sessions

NCHN has scheduled 2 more Orientation Sessions!

The Orientation Sessions will provide an overview of the programs and services of NCHN and review the benefits of your membership. This will also give you the opportunity to meet other new NCHN members and/or recently hired network directors. (We are using the term “recently” very liberal --as some of the directors may have been in their positions for several months, but not had the opportunity to attend a NCHN conference and/or an orientation call.)

The following items will be discussed: Mission of NCHN; Strategic Plan and Goals for 2010-2013; Membership Benefits; Business Partners Program; Committees.

  • Friday, February 11: 2:00 - 3:30 PM ET
  • Wednesday, February 23: 12:00 - 1:30 PM

Pre-registration is required: To register for one of these sessions, email dcomeau@synernet.net

EHR Information

+ Surveys show significant proportions of hospitals and doctors already plan to adopt electronic health records and qualify for federal incentive payments

Four-fifths of the nation’s hospitals, and 41 percent of office-based physicians, currently intend to take advantage of federal incentive payments for adoption and meaningful use of certified electronic health records (EHR) technology, according to survey data released today by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC).  The survey information was released as the registration period opened for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs.

David Blumenthal, M.D., M.P.P., the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, said the survey numbers represent a reversal of the low interest in EHR adoption in previous years.  He credited leadership from the medical community and the federal government for the improved prospects for adoption and use of health information technology (health IT).

+ HRSA Health Information Technology and Quality Webinar: “Tips on Workflow Analysis during an EHR Implementation”

Friday, January 21, 2011
2:00 - 3:30 pm EST

The successful implementation of an EHR system can result in a clinical transformation that significantly impacts a health center’s operations and how patient care is provided. A key component to this success is a focused and deliberate workflow analysis. This webinar will focus on a variety of important workflow analysis topics specific to health centers and rural hospitals. The presenters are experts in workflow analysis from both rural and urban provider backgrounds within the safety net community. They will discuss how to perform a workflow analysis and key areas that should be addressed during this process. The presentation will also address how a workflow analysis may differ based on the size of the practice, and highlight areas where provider workflow may change as a result of EHR implementation.

Presenters Include:

  • Katie Kerr, MA, Kanabec Hospital, Mora, Minnesota
  • Rudy Irby, MD, Communicare Health Centers, San Antonio, Texas
  • Timothy Roark, CPEHR, CPHIT; Richard W. Turner, FACHE; and Jan Wilkerson, RN, CPHQ, Georgia Association for Primary Health Care, Inc.
