Rural residents across the country have access to fewer healthcare services, lower economic and insurance status, fewer physicians per capita, and higher chronic disease rates than their urban peers. More rural hospitals have closed recently than in the prior 15 years combined. Maintaining the long-term viability of CAHs will be essential for rural healthcare delivery.
